For over 30 years Hans Kusters Music has represented "Bruce Springsteen Music", amongst many others, in Belgium. We wanted to share this story because it's the perfect example of what's wrong in todays day and age: The abuse of our rights. Our rights as artists, labels or publishers. An ad agency calls the office and asks for permission to use "Fire" by Bruce Springsteen in a GPS commercial. The request is immediately denied because Springsteen doesn't want his music to be used in commercials. A very specific request by himself and our office respects the will of the artist. The ad agency decides to record an "interpretation" of the song, uses it in the commercial and we took them to court. The judge, with help from a few music specialists, decides that it was a clear case of plagiary so the ad agency as well as the GPS brand got fined. argaiv1482
We as a company are extremely proud of this and, although this isn't the first time something like this has happened, wanted to share the details of this story. Music, in any way, shape or form, is owned by people who have put their hearts and souls into it as well as a lot of time and work. These copyrights and masters need to be protected and shouldn't be used or abused by anyone against the artists and owners will.
